Basics

The basics of Shotokan and Kunami Ryu are the foundation for all other elements of the martial arts.

Basics is simply training in the kicks, punches, blocks, and stances needed for the kata and sparring aspects of martial arts training.

Beginning students typically work on beginning techniques, while advanced students work on both beginning and advanced techniques.

Basics training also involves physical conditioning.

Kata

Kata is a series of techniques.

It can also be described as a pretend fight or a routine.

Beginning students learn kata with very basic, beginning moves, while advanced students learn kata that incorporates both beginning and advanced techniques.

Sparring

Our sparring program at X-Treme Karate is unlike any other in West Texas.

X-Treme Karate students are trained to hit and be hit.  This prevents any surprises if a student happened to be attacked on the street.

Our students do wear special hand, foot, and shin pads, as well as a mouthpiece while sparring.
