Sensei Darren Walters has been training in the martial arts
since the age of 6. He began his training in Shotokan Karate
and earned his black belt at age 14. Mr. Walters is currently
a 7th degree black belt in Kunami Ryu and also holds a 7th
degree black belt in Shotokan Karate. He is a police
officer with the Lubbock Independent School District. Mr.
Walters has participated in countless tournaments and
kickboxing fights. He holds several titles in each.
Mr. Walters’ martial arts and law enforcement experience
makes him an ideal teacher for both the young and old.
Mr. Walters teaches the majority of the adult classes at
X-Treme Karate, as well as the advanced children’s classes.

Peggy Austin has been training on and off in the martial arts
since the age of 18. However, she began consistently
training in Kunami Ryu Karate in 1987 and has been at it
ever since! She has now competed in over 100 tournaments
and participated in over 10 kickboxing fights.
Mrs. Austin is a 5th degree black belt and also holds a black
belt in Shotokan Karate. She is also a 2nd grade teacher in
the Frenship Independent School District. Because of her
love of children, Mrs. Austin teaches the majority of the
children’s classes as well as a few adult classes.

Teresa Walters began her training upon meeting Sensei
Darren Walters. She is currently a 4th degree black belt in
Kunami Ryu and also holds a black belt in
Shotokan Karate. Mrs. Walters has participated in numerous
tournaments and had one three round exhibition point match.
She also teaches the early afternoon classes on Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday.

Marti Austin Sides began her karate training with Mr. Walters at the age of 12.
She earned her black belt in Kunami Ryu Karate at the age of 15 and is currently
a 4th degree black belt. She also holds a black belt in Shotokan Karate. Mrs.
Sides has competed in over 100 tournaments and participated in one three
round exhibition point match.
Mrs. Sides is a 4th grade teacher in the Frenship Independent School District.
Due to her teaching experience, she mainly works with the children at X-Treme
Karate, but on occasion, does teach adults as well.
